Custom Acoustic
How much would custom made guitars cost?
How much more would a custom made acoustic guitar cost than a regular acoustic one? Please give a price range. And also can I make up a design from my head for the guitar or would I have to use a already made design?
well sadly i do not have a huge knowledge on custom acoustics. i do have a large knowledge on custom electrics. maybe this information will help you.
for starters, i bought a custom made guitar from ibanez. it was a modified rg1520gbp. this guitar is not made in the us. i had it custom made to my specifications. this did not cost me a huge deal more due to the fact that it was made from a design they already used.
i know for one that buying a non custom guitar will cost you alot less then a custom one. think about it like this. a non custom guitar is one that they make 100s of. a custom guitar is only 1 guitar of its kind. with the non customs, they can easily make back the amount of money that they invested in itdue to the fact that its been standardized. they can build the same thing over and over again using the same equipment and same knowledge of how to make it.
a custom guitar on the other hand needs to be made special. they cannot use current specs. they have to use yours. its going to cost more. they have to put in extra time, effort, money, parts. and if they screw up, they gotta start all over again at their expense.
a good example lies in an experiment i did. after i got my guitar, i was curious as to how much it would have cost if i had it completely custom made. as if it never existed until i made it. using current knowledge, i know the ESP makes customs. so i went on their web site and filled in an order form and had them calculate how much it would have costed. note i used the exact same specs, wood, hardware,etc.
the guitar from ibanez costed me about $900. it was cheap because i have a good friend of mine that works for ibanez. he got me the guitar for the price it cost for ibanez distribution area to buy. the guitar would have cost me about 2k if not for him.
anyway after finding out what ESP would have charged. it would have costed, over $5000.
