Acoustic guitar with a missing bottom strap pin (End pin?)?
My girlfriend bought me a really nice used guitar. It’s a Epiphone. (This one: http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Epiphone-Masterbilt-DR500M-Dreadnought-Acoustic-Guitar?sku=519055 ) The only problem is that it’s missing the pin on the bottom of the guitar that holds the right side of the strap on. (I believe it’s called an end pin?) The hole is already drilled as if there were one there at one time, but it must have just fallen out. I’d like to just buy the end pin. First of all, where could I purchase one for cheap online? Also, How would I install one? Does it just slip in and stay in there or would I need to super glue it in? Thank you for your time!
Or are they called strap buttons? I have no idea. I sound like such a noob. XD
Take it to a guitar repair person and have a new end pin installed. They’re pretty cheap to buy but it needs to be glued into place — and NOT with superglue. NEVER use superglue for any kind of guitar repair.
Any repairs made to a guitar or any musical instrument needs to be done with HIDE glue. Hide glue can be melted and the glued-together joints taken apart, with the application of heat to the glue joint — this is necessary in case the guitar ever needs to be disassembled for repair. Superglue, OTOH, is stronger than the wood parts being glued together and can’t be undone.
A guitar repair person will fit a new end pin for you and glue it into place with hide glue. Shouldn’t cost more than a few dollars.
