What is a good guitar for a kid?
My son is very young, but very interested in music. He seems to have a lot of natural talent. He wants a guitar for Christmas, and we intend to get him one. This time of year guitars pop up in all the toy stores as holiday gifts, and I’m wondering if that is the right way to go? Would it be better to get a child sized guitar from a music shop? I want him to truly be able to play it, enjoy it, take care of it, etc. It’s not just a toy. However I also want it to be inexpensive ($50 or less) in case he decides to play rock star and smash it.
If I buy a guitar from a toy store, can it still be a serious instrument? Or do I really need to go buy a “real” one?
He is not yet 5, but is the size of a five year old, so I’m sure we can find one the right size. The issue is more so which one is truly better. Will a kids guitar from a toy store be trash when it comes to real music?
number one rule of learning guitar (ask ANY guitarist) no matter what your are, never ever buy a shitty guitar. ordinarily id say this is dumb but ive seen kids that age do things the most experienced payers i know cant do. still buy him agood guitar from a music shop or a website like www.sweetwater.com or www.musiciansfriend.com or email me and ill find you a good model for a better price.
